Schwartzel: International Series important building block for Africa

South African major champion Charl Schwartzel, known for his memorable 2011 Masters victory, aims to inspire more future African champions at the International Series Morocco. As the headline player for this week’s Asian Tour event at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, Schwartzel seeks his first win since capturing the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational London title.

Teaming up in the marquee group with defending champion Ben Campbell and Sadom Kaewkanjana, Schwartzel highlights the unique opportunity these International Series events provide, especially for players striving to join the LIV Golf League. He emphasizes the value of playing across diverse global locations, which helps promote golf in emerging markets.

This year’s tournament also benefits rising talent through two Asian Development Tour events in Marrakech, offering local and regional players a pathway to bigger competitions. Schwartzel praises these chances as invaluable experiences that money can’t buy, crucial for developing local talent.

Moroccan golfer Ayoub Lguirati, one of eight local players in the field, is optimistic about golf’s growth in Morocco. He credits strong support from the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid for nurturing new champions. Lguirati encourages young players to stay disciplined and work hard, confident that Morocco’s golf future is bright.
