Starting February 26 at Millbrook Resort in Queenstown, the tournament will host surfing icon Kelly Slater, tennis star Ash Barty, cricket legends Stephen Fleming and Ricky Ponting, rugby broadcaster Jeff Wilson, All Blacks player Israel Dagg, New Zealand basketball great Tom Abercrombie, and actor Michael Peña as official ambassadors.
These celebrities will join the Pro-Am, highlighting the event's status as a standout, welcoming competition on the global sports scene.
Tournament chair John Hart says this group embodies the event's special appeal. “It’s always been more than elite golf for us—it connects people, locations, and narratives,” he noted. “Having stars like these as ambassadors shows the quality of our Queenstown experience and reaches fans everywhere.”
Slater, a global surfing legend known for elevating his sport, called joining the New Zealand Open a straightforward choice thanks to its vibrant vibe and stunning Queenstown backdrop. “I’ve surfed in legendary spots globally, and Queenstown ranks at the top,” the American shared. “The tournament’s unique energy, scenery, locals, and warmth have me thrilled to dive in.”
Peña, marking his second appearance after a memorable 2025 debut, raved about the experience. “Last year’s New Zealand Open was among my favorite sports moments,” he said. “The golf, crowd, and Queenstown magic at Millbrook were exceptional. Returning was an instant yes.”
